Sapa reports Paulos Sithebe is still in police custody
after failing to pay his bail yesterday.
The 31-year-old truck driver from the Free State appeared on charges of culpable homicide for causing the deaths of a man and his son when he allegedly made a u-turn in his truck in Potchefstroom.
The Magistrate’s
Court on Thursday set bail at R3000, Captain Pelonomi
Makau said.
The matter was postponed to November 28 for further investigation,
she said.
A 30-year-old man and his young son were killed on Tuesday
afternoon and three others were injured in a crash between their bakkie and
Sithebe’s truck on Parys Road.
ER24 spokesman Russel Meiring said at the time paramedics and
provincial fire services arrived on scene and found that a wrecked bakkie lay
beneath a large truck. Five people were trapped within the mangled bakkie.
The man’s wife was critically injured and two other children
sustained serious injuries.
Meiring said the children were aged three months and 10. The three
were transported to Potchefstroom Hospital, but the woman was later transferred
to Charlotte Maxeke Johannesburg Academic Hospital, Makau said.
